Reform Now Is immigration a good thing? There are a lot of opinions on it. Without immigration, America would not even be the land it is today. Immigration can be defined as the act of immigrating. Which means to move to another country where you were not born in or which you are not a native of and the new country is your new permanent resident. This act of leaving the grounds and moving to another land with a motive is known as migration. There was a time when people came freely and established within the land, but as societies became more civilized and community laws were establish, immigration became a point of concern for the advanced civilization. Many decades ago, because immigrants were needed as a way for obtaining labor, development, and achieving increased as a nation, the US borders became relaxed. There was a general movement of people immigrating from Mexico to North America, for many reasons, including better jobs, wages, educations, and escape from local violence. In the earlier part of the twentieth century, the US government started irrigation projects, which further drew attention mainly from Mexico. After 1917, as a result of an immense overflow of immigrants, the government imposed a tax and literacy tests on the immigrants to strict the immigration policy. Additional restrictions were created after World War I resulted in an increase in pressure towards illegal ways of immigrating. Workers were needed during World War II in the early 1940s to work the fields in the US, so the government initiated the Bracero Program, a program which granted temporary work permits to Mexican workers. After two decades later, the Bracero Program came to an end in 1964 due to an overflow of illegal workers, humanitarian violations of bracero employers, and th e invention of the mechanical cotton harvester. After the closing of the Bracero Program, the labor entry became illegal, and the number of such immigrants has been on a balanced rise. Since illegal immigrants were not registered, they
